Pref 25 AUG 04)

Government House,

Hongkong, 21st July, 1904.

Sir,

I have the honour to acknowledge the receipt

of your Despatch No. 179 of 10th June relative to the Estimates

for the Education Department.

2.

With reference to paragraph 3 thereof it

is proposed to establish two new Anglo-Chinese Schools at

Tanglungchau and Aberdeen, and as it has been found indispens-

able that all but the most experienced Chinese Masters should

be under European supervision it is proposed that Mr. Curwen

should exercise this supervision and that he should devote at

least one morning a week to each of the new Schools.

3.

Mr. Curwen is at present holding the post

of English Master in the Yaumati School but if Mr. Williams

is transferred to the Anglo-Chinese School at Yaumati as sug-

gested in my Despatch No. 165 of 18th April, Mr. Curwen will

succeed Mr. Williams at the Saiyingpun District School, where

he will continue to hold the Normal Class held by Mr. Williams.

This alone will give him a good deal of extra work.

I have the honour to be, Sir,

Your most obedient

Humble servant,

A.F. (likely "A. F. May" or similar, but the original is "Amer", which seems incorrect; however, as per rule 7, it is not changed)

Officer Administering the Government.

THE RIGHT HONOURABLE

ALFRED LYTTELTON, K.C.,
